Upon acquisition of 717 Fourteenth Street in 1989, Cafritz commissioned a complete interior and exterior renovation of the building, including all new systems, a modernized lobby, and a new facade. The project was directed as a build-to-suit for the government of the District of Columbia.
Upon completion of the renovation, the DC government relocated 11 agencies to the property in an effort to consolidate and enhance operations. Cafritz sold the building in 1997.
